Saudi Arabian powerhouse Al Nassr returns to continental competition on Monday night as they host Uzbekistan’s Neftchi Fergana at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh. The fixture marks the second matchday of the AFC Champions League Elite 2026-27 league stage, with both clubs facing contrasting scenarios following their opening matches.
What Happened
Al Nassr suffered a disastrous start to their Asian campaign, collapsing to a heavy 0-4 defeat against UAE club Al Ain in their opening fixture. That loss put immediate pressure on the Saudi side to respond, leaving them with zero points and a heavy goal deficit early in the tournament.
Neftchi Fergana comes into Monday's clash with far more momentum. The Uzbek outfit secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Iraq's Air Force SC in their opening encounter, picking up three valuable points to establish an early foothold in the standings.
Ronaldo's Availability
All eyes will naturally be on global football icon Cristiano Ronaldo as Al Nassr looks to earn its first victory of the competition.
Ronaldo featured in Al Nassr’s recent 3-0 win over Al Diriyah in the Saudi Pro League, confirming his physical readiness. While the Portuguese star is fully available for selection against Neftchi Fergana, whether he leads the attack from the opening whistle or starts on the bench remains to be confirmed by management.
What to Expect
Playing at Al-Awwal Park gives Al Nassr a crucial home advantage, but Neftchi's defensive organization in their victory against Air Force SC shows they will not be easy to break down. For Al Nassr, securing three points at home is vital to keeping their qualification hopes on track.
