Tata Motors is shaking up the entry-level sedan market with the rollout of its latest model. The newly launched Tata Aeris arrives as a direct replacement for the Tigor for private buyers, bringing sharp styling, modern cabin tech, and aggressive pricing to a fiercely competitive segment.
What Happened
Priced from Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom), the Aeris undercuts the outgoing Tigor by Rs 40,000. While fleet buyers will still have access to the Xpres, the Aeris is tailored strictly for private customers.
The vehicle features a comprehensively reworked exterior. Up front, a slim gloss-black grille meets rectangular LED headlamps, while the profile retains a quirky 'notchback' roofline alongside new 16-inch alloy wheels. The rear borrows styling cues from the Curvv, headlined by a connected LED taillight setup and a high bootlid. Buyers can choose from six bold exterior shades, all available with dual-tone black roof options.
Inside the Cabin and Features
The interior borrows design elements from the Tiago facelift but introduces a lighter beige and cream theme. Despite its budget positioning, the Aeris packs a heavy tech punch:
- A 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Ventilated front seats and a wireless phone charger
- Automatic climate control and cruise control
- Paddle shifters for AMT variants
Safety is anchored by six standard airbags, rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX anchors. Higher trims add electronic stability control (ESC), a dashcam, and a 360-degree camera with a blind view monitor.
Powertrains and Market Rivals
Under the hood, the Aeris runs on a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with manual and AMT gearboxes. A factory-fitted dual-cylinder CNG kit is also available. With 419 litres of boot space, it offers solid practical utility.
The Aeris enters a crowded ring dominated by the high-selling Maruti Dzire, the premium feature-rich Honda Amaze, and the comfort-focused Hyundai Aura. With aggressive pricing and a high feature-to-price ratio, Tata is positioning the Aeris as a serious value contender for first-time sedan buyers.
