Nvidia is already dominating the tech world, but CEO Jensen Huang just dropped a bombshell prediction: the company plans to double its chip shipments next year.
Speaking at a tech summit in Scotland alongside King Charles III, Huang made it clear that the global appetite for artificial intelligence shows no signs of slowing down. Every major economy and industry is rushing to secure hardware, driving an unprecedented demand cycle.
The Massive Growth Forecast
The bold projection aligns with Nvidia’s forecast of rapid growth over the next six quarters. Wall Street analysts recently scrambled to upgrade their models after Nvidia projected a staggering 70% growth rate for the fiscal year ending in January 2028—positioning its estimated annual revenue at a whopping $673 billion.
"I expect Nvidia to sell twice as many chips next year as we do this year," Huang stated. He pointed out that the decision is driven by the tangible economic benefits AI is delivering across diverse industries and nations.
Beyond Just AI GPUs
While Nvidia is famous for its powerhouse data center GPUs like the Blackwell and Rubin architectures—having shipped 6 million Blackwell units over four quarters last fall—its hardware footprint is much broader.
The silicon giant's production push isn't limited to a single product line. Nvidia's vast portfolio includes:
- Central Processors (CPUs) and high-speed networking switch chips.
- Jetson chips used to power autonomous vehicles and robotics.
- Custom silicon, including the highly anticipated processor powering Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 gaming console.
Doubling production across this massive portfolio represents a monumental supply-chain scaling effort.
Balancing Boom with Safety
Despite the aggressive production targets, Huang spent significant time addressing the ethical implications of the AI boom. Sharing the stage with representatives from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind, the Nvidia chief weighed in on growing anxieties regarding AI safety.
As researchers increasingly warn about the difficulties of controlling highly advanced artificial intelligence, Huang advocated for a cautious approach to deployment.
"When a product is not safe, we should hold it back and keep engineering it," Huang warned. It is a striking reminder that even as Nvidia accelerates production to power the future, the industry must remain cautious about what that future actually looks like.
