The Anaheim Ducks announced that Cutter Gauthier has agreed to a six-year contract extension. According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $13.5 million, totaling $81 million.
A striking detail of the agreement is the payment structure: $69.5 million of the total contract will be paid out in signing bonuses.
This heavy bonus structure was finalized just before new rules regarding bonus distributions went into effect under a newly implemented collective bargaining agreement.
Why It Matters
Gauthier is coming off a breakout sophomore campaign where he lit the lamp 41 times and put up 69 points. His elite production helped propel the Ducks back into the postseason for the first time in eight years. He didn't slow down in the playoffs either, chipping in 12 points across 12 games as Anaheim reached the second round.
Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek praised the signing, calling Gauthier a cornerstone of the franchise's young core and a pure goal scorer poised to become an elite NHL player.
For Gauthier, who was originally drafted fifth overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2022 before being traded to Anaheim prior to his NHL debut, the deal provides long-term security.

Anaheim previously matched an offer sheet from the Philadelphia Flyers to sign Leo Carlsson to a five-year, $90-million deal.
