Brothers Ben and Casey Affleck are mourning a heartbreaking double loss. During a press conference for his new movie Company at the 2026 Venice International Film Festival, Casey Affleck shared the devastating news that his father, Timothy "Tim" Byers Affleck, died earlier this year.
The passing of their father follows the death of the brothers' mother, Christopher "Chris" Anne Affleck, who died in June at age 83 following a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
“It’s dedicated to my parents because I lost both my mom and my dad this year, and they were very important to me,” Casey shared on the panel. The actor and director added that he was deeply saddened that he was unable to show his new film—which also features his two sons, Indiana and Atticus—to them before they passed.

The Affleck brothers have long been transparent about their complex upbringing and their parents' influence on their lives and careers. Tim and Chris divorced around 1984, after which Chris raised Ben and Casey in Massachusetts while Tim moved to California.

"The best thing maybe [about being an artist] is that you can take all of the hardest experiences in your life and put it into your work, and it just makes you better," Casey told reporters at the festival. "If you’re willing to face it all, be honest about it all and show up vulnerably with those feelings... it’s a blessing."
