The Detroit Lions host the New York Jets at Ford Field in a crucial matchup between two 1-1 teams seeking a bounce-back win. While the offense gets a major boost with returning linemen, the defense faces notable depth challenges due to injuries and recent roster adjustments.
Offensive Line Boost
Detroit's high-scoring offense receives much-needed reinforcements upfront. Rookie right tackle Blake Miller (knee) and veteran left guard Christian Mahogany (hip) return to the starting lineup after missing the Week 2 game in Buffalo.
Miller made a strong impression in his NFL debut against New Orleans, allowing just one pressure and helping the ground game rack up 165 yards. He and left tackle Penei Sewell face a tough test against the Jets' formidable pass rush featuring David Bailey, Will McDonald IV, and Kingsley Enagbare.
However, reserve guard Ben Bartch is unavailable after missing all week with a foot injury.
Secondary and Defensive Adjustments
The Lions secondary is heavily depleted, especially at the safety position. Veteran Avonte Maddox is sidelined for the remainder of the season with a foot injury sustained in Week 2, and Thomas Harper was placed on the Reserve/Injured list with an ankle issue.
Christian Izien steps into the starting lineup alongside Chuck Clark, supported by rookie Keith Abney II and practice squad elevation Jalen Mills. Additionally, third-year cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. is active for the first time this season, looking to contribute on defense and special teams.
Full Inactive List
Joining Ben Bartch on the inactive list for Sunday's showdown are:
- Linebacker Devin White
- Tight end Tyler Conklin
- Safety Bishop Fitzgerald
- Edge rusher Ahmed Hassanein
- Defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo
Meanwhile, rookie fourth-round pick Jimmy Rolder makes his NFL debut after missing most of training camp with a hamstring injury. Rolder steps into a reserve linebacker and special teams role replacing White, while linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga is also elevated from the practice squad.
