Far-right activist Daniel Thomas, known online as Danny Tommo, has sparked widespread outrage after filming himself slashing an inflatable dinghy in the English Channel.
During the incident, which was livestreamed to roughly 100,000 viewers, Thomas approached a small boat carrying lifejackets left behind by asylum seekers. While a rescue worker was onboard the vessel securing it, Thomas stabbed the rubber hull multiple times with a blade, shouting nationalist slogans before fleeing the scene with his associates.
Charities, including the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants and Stand Up to Racism, sharply condemned the stunt as a dangerous and reckless act of escalation on the water. Local law enforcement confirmed that inquiries into the boat-slashing incident are actively underway.
The Gosport Protests and Police Response
The incident coincided with a mobilized anti-immigration protest in Gosport, Hampshire. Hundreds of demonstrators had gathered following social media calls from Thomas to disrupt the expected arrival of asylum seekers.
However, Border Force vessels redirected the migrants—who had spent an exhausting 36 hours at sea in precarious conditions—landing them instead in Dover.
Donna Jones, police and crime commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, supported the diversion. She noted that local infrastructure was unequipped to handle such arrivals safely, citing the unsustainable burden placed on regional police forces to manage both processing and volatile protest activities.
Arrests and Wider Context
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed six arrests during the demonstrations for offenses including assaulting an emergency worker and aggravated trespass.
Thomas, who previously served a prison sentence for attempted kidnapping, leads the nationalist umbrella movement Patriot Platform. Meanwhile, rescue organizations like the RNLI reiterated their strict neutrality, emphasizing that their historic mission remains focused solely on saving lives at sea without judgment or political preference.
