Google is officially shaking up the PC market. The tech giant has announced Googlebook, an entirely new category of premium laptops engineered to bridge the gap between desktop computing and Android smartphones.
Starting at $899, these devices are designed from the ground up to feature deep artificial intelligence integration, high-end hardware, and a shared operating foundation with Android. Pre-orders are open now, with official shelf dates set for early October.
What Is Googlebook?
Googlebook is built on a hybrid technology stack combining Android foundations and desktop capabilities from ChromeOS. Designed specifically for Gemini Intelligence, the laptops come in flagship configurations crafted by major hardware partners including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
Every model features premium materials like aluminum, magnesium alloy, and carbon fiber. Users can expect responsive touchscreens with up to 2.8K OLED displays, haptic glass trackpads, and backlit keyboards. Under the hood, processors from Intel and Qualcomm pack dedicated NPUs capable of over 45 TOPS, delivering up to 14 hours of battery life.
A nostalgic design touch also makes a return: the Glowbar. Positioned on the exterior, it lights up at startup, indicates battery charging levels, and features reactive animations when interacting with Gemini.
Seamless Android Integration
For Android users, Googlebook aims to eliminate the friction of switching between devices. During initial setup, signing in automatically migrates your phone’s settings, saved Wi-Fi networks, passwords, and messages using end-to-end encryption.
The device runs both the desktop-class Chrome browser and millions of Android apps optimized for large screens, mouse, and keyboard inputs. Users also gain access to native creative software like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, streaming apps with offline viewing, and AAA gaming via a complimentary year of GeForce NOW.
Security and Developer Tools
Security is anchored by a Google Titan hardware root of trust and on-device malware detection. Notably, Googlebook introduces a Level 5 security-certified pKVM hypervisor, enabling an isolated Linux environment for advanced developers. Builders can also utilize Antigravity, Google's new AI agent development platform, for agentic coding directly on the device.
Pricing and Availability
Starting at $899, each purchase includes 12 months of Google AI Pro (offering 5TB of cloud storage and Gemini Advanced), alongside three months of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop. Googlebook OS will receive regular feature updates for up to 10 years.
Pre-orders are live now on the Google Store and select major retailers. Devices officially land on shelves starting October 4 in the U.S., followed by Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia on October 5.
